Rated 4 out of 5 by SolarCon from You get what you pay for This base is not structural and relies heavily on the bed you set it in.You will not be able to set his base in regular cement of any kind or consisity. Make sure you use a Lightweight Bedding Mortar.Like: CustomFloat Bedding Mortar. Many use STRUCTO-LITE Basecoat Plaster. Dried product is 15% lighter than water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by K2inMB from Like standing on wet blue ice Because I'm disabled, I needed to replace my tub with a safer, step-in shower. I chose this base because of its low threshold and advertised non-slip properties. However, the first time I used it, I almost fell through the glass shower doors. The base was like standing on wet blue ice. I only escaped serious injury by hauling myself out of the shower by my grad bars. Until I get a non-slip mat for the base, I'm wearing Crocs into the shower. Incredibly dangerous!

You need to be careful since the edge around the bottom base is flat and if you don't get the base perfectly level you will get water accumulation along the lip. Also it can develop hair line cracks around the drain since you can't get good support under that area if you leave a small buffer around the drain pipe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pete from Solid We had this shipped and it arrived in perfect condition! This worked well to cover the “homemade cement attempt of a shower” in our basement, it had a dangerous, sloped drain. This fit in and over the space very well, to create a solid and safe shower basin.

What is the best mortar to use?
To install the DreamLine SlimLine shower base, you will need to use a sand-mix mortar which is basically just a sand-based mortar mix that does not contain any stones or pebbles. is there a wall kit available for DLT-1136420 single threshold shower base?
The QWALL-VS model # SHBW-1548760-00 can actually be trimmed down to fit the 42" x 36" single threshold shower base (model # DLT-1136420). This QWALL-VS model size is listed as a 44-48", model size, but it can be trimmed a little more to fit the 42" dimension of the 42" x 36" shower base.

What is weight capacity with mortar?
Without mortar, the weight limit would be approximately 250 LBS. Once the base is installed in a bed of sand-mix mortar, it will be rock solid and able to support much more weight. For more information, you may want to reach out to the manufacturer of the mortar to see if they have any specific guidelines for weight limits/restrictions.

Can you use roofing felt over subfloor for the mortar base?
DreamLine SlimLine shower bases are designed to be installed directly to your subfloor in a bed of sand-mix mortar. We do not recommend using any materials between the shower base and the subfloor. For best results and to maintain the warranty on the product, please follow the instructions in the installation manual exactly as they are written.

What is the recommended method to clean the shower base? Is there a specific Acrylic cleaner you can recommend?
To ensure long lasting life for your acrylic base, we recommend that you wipe it off after each use with a soft cloth. To clean the acrylic base use non-abrasive sprays or cream-based cleaners. Avoid the use of aerosol spray cleaners. Never use abrasive cleansers, metal brushes or scrapers that could scratch or dull the surface.

Directions do not mention securing the flanges to the studs. Is this not necessary??
The SlimLine shower bases should not be fastened to the studs as doing this will void the warranty. To properly install the shower base, it must be installed in a bed of mortar and set directly up against the studs.
